Simon Fairbrother

Simon Farbrother has over 25 years of senior leadership experience in municipal Government. He has led the Cities of Edmonton, Waterloo and Spruce Grove through major transformations within the community and organization. He also has private sector experience in the UK.


He is currently the Director of City Management for the Royal Commission of Alula, Saudi Arabia helping to transform a UNESCO world heritage site into and International tourist destination.


As a City Manager Simon has led significant organizational and cultural change, provided clear strategic direction and improved the efficiency and effectiveness of all the organizations he has led.


His work has been recognized Internationally and Nationally and he is the recipient of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. He is a registered Professional Planner and a credentialed City manager. He is an accomplished public speaker, and has provided coaching Nationally and Internationally.


Simon is committed to the municipal profession and has been the President of both the International City County Managers Association and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators. He has led International delegations and advocated on behalf of the profession.

Simon has an undergraduate degree from Portsmouth University and a Master's degree from the University of Alberta.


During his time in Edmonton Simon personally negotiated the Downtown Area Development which has resulted in 3 Billion Dollars of investment in the core of the City while retaining an NHL franchise in the City.
